Did you know there are more than the typical 3 trimesters of pregnancy?

I’m not only sharing with you what to expect in each, but also a lot of local resources you can use as you plan for your pregnancy, newborn and birth in Indianapolis.

In the previous two blog posts, we talked about the “secret life” of the first trimester. Check this post out HERE! You can also find helpful tips and resources for the “golden age” of the second trimester in Part 2 of this series HERE!

And now for Part 3 of the five stages of pregnancy . . .

Third Trimester: The Home Stretch

The third trimester is when things start to get real. As you prepare for your baby's arrival, you'll want to make sure you have everything in place for a smooth transition.

1. Consider hiring a doula.

The goal of a doula is to help the mother experience a positive and safe birth, whether an unmedicated birth or a cesarean. After birth, many labor doulas will help new mothers begin the breastfeeding process and encouraging bonding between the new baby and other family members

I highly recommend Indiana Birth and Parenting. Take some time to learn more about the help available to you! Having this physical and emotional support during this time of so many body changes and emotional roller coasters can be such a help to you, your husband and your sweet baby!

2. Plan a “babymoon” with your husband before baby arrives

Taking some intentional time to focus on each other before baby arrives can be a time of strengthening your relationship. Talk to each other about how you are feeling. Tell him what you are excited about and what fears you have. Let him do the same. And then just enjoy some undivided time together celebrating the love you have for one another.

3. Prepare your older babies for the changes ahead.

Give them extra love and attention and remind them of how special they are and how amazing they are going to be as a big brother or a big sister. Include them in planning and preparing for the new baby’s arrival.
